Osamu was born in Osaka. He liked animation, comics and insects. When he was an elementary school kid, his classmates teased him about his small and thin body. At his home, his mother hugged him and said, “Be patient and keep smiling!” Because of his mother, he became patient.

    All members of Osamu’s family liked films. His father bought a small projector and held a cartoon film party for only his family. His mother often took her children to concerts or plays.

    At last, the World War II broke out. Osamu was a junior high school student but he worked in a factory. He never stopped drawing cartoons.

    After the war, he set up a cartoon factory. The name was “Mushi Production”. Then he drew “Tetsuwan Atomu”. This story became the first TV animated program in Japan. “Tetsuwan Atomu” was on air all around the world. In America, this animation was named “Astro Boy”. After that, Japan exported a lot of cartoons all over the world.

    Osamu became very famous but he did not pride himself. He died at the age of sixty. He drew more than seven hundred cartoons in his life. In all of his story, he told us precious lives. Even now, his cartoons give us a lot of messages.
