On the festival day, the priest waited until evening and hid himself in the forest of Mitsuke Tenjin Shrine. After a while villagers came carrying a coffin on their shoulders. The poor girl was trapped alive in it. They set the coffin at the front of the shrine building and ran away. He strained his ears and kept watching the coffin.

 At midnight he heard howls of beasts coming up from the deep forest. Soon stomps approached and huge shadows appeared in the yard of the shrine. They surrounded the coffin and began to dance and sing aloud;

"Shippei Taro (しっぺい太郎)at Kozenji(光前寺), Shinshu(信州)
Don't tell him about us
Don't let him know about us
Shippei Taro at Kozenji, Shinshu
Don't tell him about us
Don't let him know about us"

 After dancing around, the monsters broke the coffin and grabbed the unconscious girl. They took her and disappeared into the darkness. The unsui couldn't move from fear while watching it all. Although, he remembered the name of a man, Shippei Taro. Next day he left the village for Shinshu to look for the man.
