The Italian flag is a tricolor
with three vertical bands:
green on the left, white in the center,
and red on the right.
It was based
on the French Tricolor flag.
Green is the color of plains and hills,
white is for the snow of the Alps,
and red is for the blood
in the Italian independence wars.
